How is the welcome discount in your simulation calculated?

The welcome discount is only applied to the parts of your energy bill that are directly linked to your energy consumption.

The discount therefore applies to:

  • the energy cost;
  • the GSC cost;
  • the CHP cost;
  • the fixed fee.

Network charges, taxes and levies are not eligible for the welcome discount. This means that the discount cannot be used to offset, for example, distribution network tariffs, prosumer tariffs or other government taxes and levies.

What does this mean in practice?

If you have a low or even zero consumption, for example due to solar panels with a reversing meter, you may not be able to use the full welcome discount.

Example

You have a contract with a €200 welcome discount.

Your annual settlement consists of:

  • €50 fixed fee;
  • €0 energy cost;
  • €100 network charges.

Because the discount only applies to consumption-related costs, a maximum discount of €50 can be applied. The network charges remain fully payable.

In this example, you would still receive an invoice of €100 for the network charges.
