Why do I have to report my meter reading?

When and how you provide the meter reading of your electricity meter varies from case to case.


You are moving to a new home


If you are moving to a new home, complete the energy transfer document with the previous tenant, the owner or the leasing office. You are then the 'acquirer'. State the meter readings on the document at the start of the delivery period and then send a copy of your co-signed copy to the energy supplier of your choice. Please note: make sure you keep the original in a safe place! If you do not forward these meter readings, the grid operator will estimate your meter reading when you move.


You leave your old home


If you leave your home, complete the energy transfer document with the new tenant, the owner or the leasing office. You are then the 'departing customer'. Please state on the document the meter readings at the end of the supply period and then send your copy of your co-signed copy to your current energy supplier. He will send you your final bill. Please note: make sure you keep the original in a safe place!


If you do not forward your meter readings, the network operator will estimate your meter reading at the time you leave and your consumption since the last meter reading. Your supplier will then make the adjustment and terminate your contract.


You change supplier


If you change energy supplier, your supplier will inform your grid operator. Shortly before the date of the change (after 21 days at the earliest), your network operator will ask you to provide your meter reading online or by telephone. If you do not forward your meter readings, the grid operator will estimate your meter reading when you change supplier.
