A digital meter, also called a smart meter, is used to automatically transmit the meter reading of your energy consumption to your grid operator. But also to pass on the excess electricity that you generate yourself, for example with solar panels, and that you inject into the grid. By 2035, all Belgian households will have one, but since 2021 it has already been mandatory for all new solar installations.
