A bidirectional meter (also called "smart meter" or "digital meter") measures how much energy you take from the grid and how much energy you inject into the grid.
- A bidirectional meter is a legal requirement in Flanders since 1/10/2021 if you have solar panels. We arrange and pay for the installation of your meter, which is installed by grid operator Fluvius.
- A bidirectional meter is legally required in Wallonia for new solar installations as of 1/1/2024.
If your installation was certified before that date, you remain under the compensation system until the end of 2030, and installation is not mandatory (but still possible).
