With energy sharing, you can easily transfer the electricity you generate yourself (for example with solar panels) but do not use at that moment, either to yourself or to someone else. The only requirement is that both the energy sharer and the recipient have a correctly configured digital meter (measurement regime 3). This meter records every 15 minutes how much energy you generate and consume.
Below, we outline a few scenarios in which energy sharing is possible. Please note that there are also costs associated with sharing energy, whether with others or between your own properties.
Good to know: energy sharing is something you arrange entirely yourself, directly with the other person or between your own properties. EnergyVision does not do this on your behalf. You can request and manage this via Fluvius, which is responsible for digital meters and the registration of energy sharing.
Scenario 1 – You are an EnergyVision customer. Your neighbor would like to share energy with you.
What happens on your bill?
Throughout the calendar year, EnergyVision invoices your personal consumption.
We collect the details of the energy shared between you and your neighbor. For this, we receive the calculation from Fluvius: you shared 500 kWh (example).
We will then adjust your annual bill. You will receive a small refund for the 500 kWh that came to you via your neighbor. Note that this applies only to the energy component. You still pay your own distribution and network costs.
In addition, an administrative fee will be charged.
Fictitious example
Correction | Quanity | Price | Amount |
Correction for billed volume | -500 kWh | €0,09/kWh | – €45,00 |
Annual administrative fee | - | - | + €100,00 |
Total | + €55,00 |
=> In this scenario, you ultimately pay an additional €55 to share energy.
Scenario 2 – You are an EnergyVision customer. You would like to share energy with your neighbor.
What happens on your bill?
You received a compensation from EnergyVision for your surplus injection into the grid.
At the end of the calendar year, we collect all the details about the energy sharing with your neighbor. For this, we receive the calculation from Fluvius: you shared 500 kWh (example).
We will then adjust the amount you received from us: you will have to repay part of that compensation.
In addition, you will pay an administrative fee.
Fictitious example
Correction | Quanity | Price | Amount |
Correction for billed volume | -500 kWh | €0,04/kWh | + €20,00 |
Annual administrative fee | - | - | + €100,00 |
Total | + €120,00 |
=> In this scenario, you ultimately pay an additional €120 to share energy.
Scenario 3 – You want to use energy from your main residence for your holiday home
You would like to use the energy from your main residence at your holiday home (note: energy sharing is only possible between Belgian EAN points).
What happens on your bill?
You received a compensation from EnergyVision for the surplus injection into the grid at your main residence.
Throughout the calendar year, EnergyVision invoices your personal consumption at your holiday home.
At the end of the calendar year, we collect all the details about the energy sharing between your main residence and your holiday home. We receive this calculation from Fluvius and will adjust both your home settlement and your holiday home settlement.
You will receive a small refund, but there will be two separate corrections and two administrative fees. Note that this applies only to the energy component. You are still responsible for paying distribution and network costs.
Fictitious example
Correction | Quanity | Price | Amount |
Correction for billed volume | -500 kWh | €0,04/kWh | - €45,00 |
Annual administrative fee | - | - | + €100,00 |
Total | + €55,00 |
Main residence
Correction | Quanity | Price | Amount |
Correction for billed volume | -500 kWh | €0,04/kWh | +€20,00 |
Annual administrative fee | - | - | + €100,00 |
Total | + €120,00 |
Final total: €55.00 + €120.00 = €175.00 extra
=> In this scenario, you even end up spending €175 to share energy between your homes.
